Schreiner’s Restaurant Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

Above average diner food. I would rate it a 3.5 out of 5 - something I would go back to, but would not rank it as a "must go". Fairly large menu, very quick service. The chowder is good...not the best, just good. Lots of desserts to chose from, most are good. The have a lot of bakery items, the best of which is the pecan buns.

Great local restauarant - the type with long-term mature waitresses that know exactly when to get your order, fill up your coffee cup, and get your bill. Large selection on the menu and food is good but not excellent. Lots of blue hairs here so you know the prices must be reasonable and the portions ample. Deserts are excellent - I think made at the restaurant bakery.

What can I say..Clam Chowder, clam chowder...clam chowder. My cousins from Boston were stopping through and wanted to eat at a casual place. So we came here, it was terribly busy. But we got seated and told them this place has the best chowder. They were a lil skeptical-this is Wisconsin, better known for fried cheese sticks and beer. They couldn't believe how good it was, my cousin's wife asked the waitress if they could ship it to Boston in dry ice!!! The waitstaff is incredible, I almost though they had all worked as a cook here previous-cause they knew everything about every menu detail. One warning this place fills up fast on weekends, and you might as well hang it up during EAA/OshKosh-because people from all over the world stop back for their "yearly" Schreiner's fix. Good comfort food at a good price..simple as that.

After staying at a friend's this weekend, we chose to go out for breakfast at Schreiner's Restaurant. This was a first for all of us and we definitely decided to never return. First, we had to wait ten minutes to be seated when the restaurant was obviously only half full. I understand that maybe they didn't have the staff, but it was a Sunday morning, when I tend to see restaurants packed. When we were seated, we were offered coffee, and then had no contact with our waitress for at least another ten minutes. When she did come to take our order, she was not polite. She came up and said "what do you want?" in a snotty little voice. Our food took forever to arrive, and there were only three of us. The food was good, but far from spectacular. The breakfast menu selection is pretty scarce, save for pastries. The restaurant still looks like it is in the mid 20th century (maybe that's why our food took so long...time to update the kitchen??) The waitresses are dressed as if you're back in time. And the portions are also much smaller than 2010 portions (not necessarily a bad thing), but the prices are 2010 prices. For example, my tiny glass of juice, which was one serving of 4 oz I'm sure, was $1.25. I find that ridiculous. I would say our breakfast was no where near worth the $20 it cost us. My suggestion: save yourself the disappointment and go to a chain. At least you know what to expect at Perkins.

3.5 stars, saved by their desserts and location. Lots of choices, but nothing was really outstanding (the "American fries" were really greasy). The service was super nice and professional - and they're probably saving a lot on health care premiums since most of the waitresses probably qualified for Medicare. Desserts were good and I'd probably just get a salad and a dessert if I was back in this neck of the woods. If you're driving through, this is probably the best choice, so stop and eat here. Comforting, old-timey decor and a little shop in front with lots of baked goods if you need a sugarfix to go.

I'm passing through Fond Du Lac on Valentine's Day and decided to stop in Shreiner's for a bloody Mary and a bowl of soup. My mate ordered the chili and i had the chicken and dumplings, which were great compliments to the perfectly mixed drinks. The staff is as warm and sweet as the bakery that they male their famous pumpkin pies with.

I am in the area once a year for AirVenture. I make sure I eat here at least once during my stay. The locals call it a restaurant, but anyone from New Jersey would tell you it is set up and run like a really good, first rate, Diner. The dishes are large, well prepared, and reasonably priced. The service is fast, and the staff keep things moving smoothly. I live a couple miles from the Atlantic ocean and regularly eat at seafood restaurants right on the water, and think it is funny that one of the best New England Clam chowders that I know of is about 1,000 miles inland from the nearest ocean. If you stop in, make sure you get the clam chowder.

We were driving past Fond du Lac on a Sunday evening. We stopped to grab an early dinner and had seen a recent review on Wisconsin Foodie TV show(PBS). We were traveling so our lunch was our comparison(laughable food at a different diner). We knew we were going to have a pleasant experience her. The hostess, waiter and all help were friendly and acompodating. Our waiter brought water right away and kept it filled. I ordered brinner- breakfast for dinner. The pancakes were huge and I ordered meat as well as American fries. The pancakes and the fries were outstanding. My hubby ordered the broiled pork chop-yup, mashed potatoes, peas, roll and applesauce with a drink and a salad. That was a lot of food. He had the home brewed rootbeer which he said was good. I have to say, the place was clean. There were ages 8-100 in the place. I think it was a good solid meal with many choices, diner style, clean and efficient. Oh-and we were treated like a regular, I loved that. Total bill $20.00. We will be back if the need arises.

I'm not sure why everyone raves about thus place. The food is just average in my opinion. The service was fantastic, but that's where it ends. I had the fish which is haddock that's breaded and deep fried. I didn't care for it at all. It was definitely overcooked. The coleslaw was watery and flavorless. My husband had the fried chicken dinner. It was good, not great. We both had the clam chowder. It also was average. It's definitely a hangout for the over 70 crowd. I personally won't go back.

We stopped here as a convenient midpoint to meet up on the way to begin our vacation. Let's hope the rest of the trip is better. We have kids, so we're happy to see the kids menu, though they only had one at the table and we had four kids. The waitress was incredibly inattentive. When asked about omelette options, she said there was a breakfast menu, but they only serve it until noon. After pointing out it was only 11:15, she be grudgingly brought out breakfast menus. It took about an hour for the full meal to come out, though some sides came out 20 minutes before the main meal. One meal was completely forgotten. When it finally did come out, the food was mediocre to bad. Portions were meager. Food was bland or very basic. A vegetable omelette had mostly vegetables, hardly any cheese and little egg. It didn't even come with potato of any sort, which is pretty standard. The fried haddock sandwich was a small piece of fish on a large roll with one piece of lettuce. Everything was bland. The only highlight was the clam chowder, which was very tasty. Our waitress was barely seen and bordering on rude. She constantly forgot things we asked for and would take an incredibly long time to bring the things she did remember. It was not particularly crowded and she only seemed to come out from the back to service two other tables that only had two people. Needless to say, we will not be back.

I don't get the hype for this place. Yes, it's been around forever and has become a Fond du Lac institution, but I just don't get it. Not that the food is bad, but it just isn't good either. Every meal I've ever had there has been bland and uninspired. Coleslaw that's watery and has no flavor, fish that is over cooked, and clam chowder that is too thick and somewhat bland-I grew up on the East Coast and this is not Clam Chowder to brag about. Like so many places around here, this place gets by because it is okay. People continue to frequent this place because it's what they know. Luckily, they've built up quite a business catering to tour busses and the older clientel, because if any decent diner were to come along they'd be out of business in a heart beat.

I don't know if it's a modest thing or not but the food is very bland and lacks flavor. My waitress was pleasant. Her name was Karen. She sneezed and then proceed to handle the "fresh baked rolls" and pour glasses of soda. Yep, that's right who needs to wash hands when serving food?

Sunday bloodies are exceptional and include mini beer. the waiters always remember our order - try Bernies pub.

Classic old-school Wisconsin diner where the waitresses still wear nurses uniforms. Food (and ambiance!) is def higher quality than Perkins or IHOP, and I appreciate the somewhat homemade bakery items and especially that the house-made sausage has no nitrites. But my breakfast was still bland and white, with greasy food service bread for the toast (please, let me butter my own toast at the table and don't slather margarine on it before bringing it to me), American fries that were literally in a puddle of oil, and thin curled sausage patties. Providing higher quality bread with butter at the table, WAY less oil in the potatoes, and thicker more "homemade" looking sausage, would go a long way to making a more appetizing breakfast. Pecan roll was nice, but I'd prefer it to be less like sweet cake, but instead have a more wheat-y and a cinnamon roll-like texture. I had lunch here last year and remember liking that more, although the clam chowder was too salty. I will probably be back to Schreiners's since my mom is in a nursing home here in Fond du Lac, and admittedly I love the old-school Wisconsin kitschy atmosphere, but will probably not get breakfast again (which is really a shame since it's my favorite meal of the day!).

Stopped here during a weekend trip on a recommendation. Not that great. The crowd seemed to be an average age of 85. Food was mediocre. Most of our party didn't even bother finishing what they ordered. Our waitress seemed to forget we were there so that prolonged our visit.

Great find! Going through town and starving and decided to stop here to fill up before heading back to Milwaukee. Great clam chowder and the house dressing, creamy garlic ranch, I could drink out of a bottle. I had the Haddock and I liked the light breading- kind of corn meal breading to make it crispy. Great diner atmosphere and it was super busy at 5 pm on a Wednesday night. Lots of older folk, but the ages ran the gamut. Good comfort food and choices for everyone. Lots of locals all saying "hi" to each other.

For a travelling business woman, this place is an oasis! Friendly waitresses, decent prices and better than average diner food. For Fond Du Lac, this is as good as it will get for you. Give it a try!! **note: I came and revised this review to five stars now - I just ate my to-go Coconut cream meringue pie - holy cow!! Best pie I've had at a diner. Ever.

Schreiner's Restaurant has been around since 1938 at several different locations in Fond du Lac. The restaurant is your typical old fashion restaurant. It servers good basic food, enough to fill you up and for a good price. There is a bakery and gift shop attached, but the draw is their food. We normally stop for lunch and they have several specials in addition to their normal selections. Their chili is good as well as their soups. Sandwiches are filling as are their dinners.

My family and I tried Schreiner's for breakfast this morning based on the good reviews here on Yelp and we were not disappointed! Excellent Belgian waffles, French toast and fried potatoes--crispy, buttery hash brown goodness! We are in Fond du Lac for the weekend and we'll be back for more tomorrow!

This place was better than the previous day's breakfast, but not by a lot. The waitress was almost overly friendly -- after asking the boyfriend if he wanted more coffee, he said no, and she topped it off anyway. For folks who like cream and sugar, the constant top-offs are kind of annoying... Also, I am approximately 50 years too young to be dining here. Just an observation. The best thing I can say about the food is that the clam chowder was good (yes, clam chowder for breakfast), and everything was hot. Beyond that, the most exciting thing on my plate was the raisin toast. My scrambled eggs had been cooked into one large, oblong blob, and the bacon was draped across it. I guess someone thought it was artsy, but it just looked kinda weird. Also, whatever oil they're cooking the eggs in had completely permeated the eggs, making for a really gross aftertaste. Yuck. Honestly, I can't say I would ever eat here again or recommend that anyone else do so. It seems like they have lots of bakery, so maybe that's better, but breakfast was a pretty poor showing.

Hot new business? ?? Oldest restaurant in fond du lac. And the waitresses still dress like it. Horrible service terrible food. Great pie.

We were in town for a half marathon and we stopped in to Shreiner's the night before. The service was fast and friendly and the food was pretty good. The atmosphere is kind of an older restaurant feel, but was very clean. We both liked what we ordered (chicken salad and chicken tenders) and for what we paid we would go back.

I was going to be in fondy and I had to get breakfast here. Famous home made clam chowder and sausage patties got me in. The place is nice and clean. Staff was great. Older crowd for some reason, the food is good so where are the younger people going. I posted some shots. First off at 7am on a Sunday I started with the clam chowder. Creamy and tasty with nice clams, not the gritty kind. Yes it was worth getting for breakfast since I wouldn't be back later. The biscuit and gravy was excellent, I have been seeking some. A real biscuit smothered with creamy sausage was very good. Finally the famous sausage was very good, you can buy it to go if you want. Yes I went with all there famous items and was glad. This is a destination restaurant for sure which most places can't claim. This is a stop worth making for breakfast too bad I don't live here. Good job.

Imagine if a Culver's restaurant mated with an unusually large sized 1950's diner. This would be the offspring. Pretty good "comfort food" menu. I hate that term, "comfort food." Ugh. Menu/food was more of a Mom & Pop's version of Perkin's. They serve beer. I would imagine their breakfast food is probably a little tastier. I wonder why that is. Older crowd. 1950s styled servers. Or maybe that's just Fond Du Lac. Service was great though. Big pie selection which I was excited about. My piece of pie was kind of disappointing though. :/ Full bar attached, separate entrance.

Favorite brunch location. Breakfast is excellent, you get a decent amount of food for little money, staff are nice and most have worked there a long time! Moved to FDL this summer and I've become a regular here!

Stepping into this restaurant is like a trip back in time. I used to stop here with my Mom and Dad on our treks back and forth to Milwaukee. Back then the Waitresses wore white dresses and little White caps and the male workers wore crisp white shirts, black pants and black bow ties. today was no different. Back then the average age of the customers was probably about 75 and at 10 or 11 I was the youngest person there. Today at 50, I wasn't the youngest, but I definitely brought the average age down a bit! Our food was high quality diner fare. A nice corned beef sandwich served with Horseradish in a fancy little crock. Light and fluffy French Toast with Real Maple Syrup and a to die for, Banana Cream Meringue Pie which came out already split on two plates for us, because our waitress over heard us planning on sharing. Diane also raved about her coffee, which came with its own little pitcher of cream. I remember Schreiner's being one of the first wheelchair accessible restaurants I was ever in as a kid, so, of course it is still accessible today. Schreiner's is by no standards Gourmet, but for what is and what it has been since 1938 it definitely deserves 5 stars!

We stopped in for a mid-morning breakfast on Sunday. Good thing there was "breakfast on the farm" in Fond du lac County or we would have had a long wait. We waited about 10-15 min for a table, which gave us time to look at the history posted on the waiting area walls. It's very clean. Service was quick and friendly. He had the biscuits and gravy; we both liked it. I had buttermilk pancakes; they were light and fluffy but served with artificially flavored syrup. We bought a peach pie on the excellent reviews; the crust was truely very good but the pie was too sweet and syrupy for both of us. The vultures at work finished it off. I would return.

Schreiner's is a total gem. Excellent service, clean restaurant, old school charm and good, standard, down-to-earth food. A mixture of all walks of life. Great prices as well.

I really like Schreiner's. By today's standards, it is a throw back to an earlier time and therefore very unique. The menu is vast and varied. They are famous in our world for their delicious clam chowder and their equally delicious, fresh baked pies. We love their food and their unique, trim and neat, uniforms. We've visited twice recently. On our most recent visit our server was a wonderful 25-30 year veteran of Schreiner's waitress. She was a delightful conversationalist and shared some anecdotes of her years of service at Schreiner's. Part way through our meal she transferred our service to a younger waitress who needed extra money as a college student. I thought that was very generous and kind.

Food: Pretty good. Whatever fried potatoes I had were kick-ass, these may have been some of the best breakfast potatoes I've ever had. The eggs were a little oily but properly cooked otherwise. The atmosphere was bright. Service: Quick and attentive. Clientele: A bunch of racist hicks. I got to overhear tables on both sides of me each having a seperate conversation that was horribly ignorant and offensive on many levels. On one side, I got to listen to president Obama referred to as a "n*gger" who they were "suprised nobody's assasinated yet." Oh then on the other side I got to listen to how the "EPA are a bunch of communists" and are "run by Jews." Yes, I know it doesn't make any sense, but that's what the dude said. No joke, two seperate conversations. Real classy, Fond Du Lac. Oh and the best part was when the waitress joined in the banter. The atmosphere suddenly felt really uncomfortable and I got out of there as quick as I could. I am not into that shit, I don't hang out where people like this do, and if somebody talked like that in my place I would kick them the fuck out. Aside from that, the breakfast was all right. Otherwise, this would probably be a great place to have your next KKK dinner party, white-power breakfast gathering, or if you're any other moronic waste of oxygen who is mentally stuck in the 1950's.

Craig hit the nail on the head here. This is a great place for lunch or dinner with a pretty big menu. Everything from a cheese sandwich to half of a fried chicken. Don't skip desserts, they are incredible here. I had the hot beef sandwich with mash-taters. You know, perfect hot summer day meal. Everything was really good, the gravy was obviously homemade. For dessert, I had the fresh raspberry pie. Good golly miss molly. Best piece of pie I've ever had. The fresh berries were held together with a sweet jello-like substance. If they have it on the menu, get it because you will not be disappointed. Service was fast and the ladies were friendly but not so much they'd sit there and chew your ear off. I'll definitely be back soon.

Big fan of the New England Chowder. Rest of menu is above average (for a diner type restaurant). Friendly place with wait staff that has been there for years. (Not sure if that's good or bad!). Here is a big hint... lots of old people eat there which means good food at a good price! (And early dinner specials!)

It's hard not to love Shreiner's the way you love your doting grandmother. They both have been around forever, make some of the best comfort food you've ever had and are unconditional--in the best sense of the word. Fond du Lac is the smallest city (45,000) I've ever lived in, and Shreiner's is my favorite restaurant here in town. Granted, it's not Chicago, but even so, the consistency of the food, the attention to detail and the sincerity of the servers makes it one of the best in class restaurants of recent memory. I would recommend the Super Seaburger, the awesome clam chowder, and--if you're there for breakfast--the pecan and/or cinnamon rolls. Stop by if you are in the area; you won't be disappointed.

Genuine home cooking at it's finest. All the staff are nicely dressed, and the clam chowder is very good. I had a simple breakfast of eggs, sausage patties, and toast. All in all, everything was fresh, quick, with excellent service. This place lives up to the other reviews and I haven't been to a place like this in a long time. Definitely will come back if I am ever in the area. Oh, and the prices were undeniably reasonable!!!

Driving north or south on I-41, I try to go thru Fond du Lac at a mealtime, simply because of Schreiner's. This past weekend it was suppertime--had a green salad, good but not spectacular, and the sirloin tips over noodles. The mushroom gravy over the sirloin tips was XLNT, albeit a tiny bit saltier than I'd have made. Noodles were done nicely, not over- nor under-cooked. The sirloin tips were good too. For dessert I had pumkin pie--It's easy to find mediocre pumpkin pie in a restarurant, but this was, again, XLNT, even the crust. And with real whipped cream, not kool-whip. Coffee with my meal was OK. Service was, as noted by other reviewers, superb. I couldn't empty my coffee cup, a refill on cream was also supplied, a second dinner roll (warm) was offered, and I felt really well taken care of. IMHO, Schreiner's scores once again! :-)

Has been around forever, so my 90 year old aunt wanted to take us there for lunch while on a tirp one day. Had to wait in line on a Sunday. Huge menu, but the pies are overrated. Most choices are probably decent, comfort food, but this is not a place for high quality. On the other hand, there aren't a lot of choices on 41, so this is probably where we'll go again when in the area.

  • Shelley S.

Can't believe this averages 4 stars if you read reviews this place is very average in menu and food taste/quality. Food isn't bad but not spectacular at all. I travel and have dined here several times for lunch or dinner. Menu is ok. Your average family restaurant type fare w breakfast all day. The desserts which are homemade are bland and overpriced as is much of the menu for what you get. French toast (3 triangles) with fake maple syrup and 3 slices bacon is 7.50. Beef stroganoff is a SMALL pile of mushy noodles with pasty gravy n small salad (salad/dressing best part of meal) 11.00. The restaurant has been in business a long time n lots of nostalgia - but the food for the price is just plainly simple. Fav of the blue hair crowd FDL definitely has much better places than here both in quality/taste and price. Skip the hype of circa 1938.

They aren't kidding when they say they've got good clam chowder. It's the best I've ever had!!!I also had the salmon burger which was delish as Rachel Ray would say! It was really hard to choose since they've got such an extensive menu. I'm really sorry I didn't have room for dessert since they looked scrumptious. Will have to come back and try some!

I go there strictly for Breakfast. Very friendly staff. Great Coffee! Great waffles, omlettes, and toast. Prices are very competitive as well. I try to go there at least once on the weekend. Very nice place and excited to see what the bar is going to be like once it is done.
